DNA of Music receives positive accreditation

At a meeting on March 17, 2022, the Danish Accreditation Council decided that the Danish National Academy of Music is awarded a positive institutional accreditation. This means that the Academy meets a number of international standards for quality assurance of higher education programs.

Positive accreditation

The Accreditation Council has made the decision based on an overall assessment derived from the criteria set out in the "Executive Order on Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions and Approval of New Higher Education Programmes under the Ministry of Culture", the guidelines in "Guidelines on institutional accreditation - for higher education institutions under the Ministry of Culture" of April 1, 2014 and the Accreditation Council's memorandum of March 15, 2018 on the assessment of institutions' quality assurance systems.

DNA of Music says:

"In recent years, our organization has worked purposefully towards a positive institutional accreditation. It has been a major task, which students, staff and management have had an excellent collaboration to succeed. We are very proud that an independent body now confirms that our programmes and the way we organize them are of a quality that meets international standards on all parameters," says Rector Claus Skjold Larsen.

"The accreditation is a recognition that our quality assurance system is well-described and well-documented and also works in practice. We now have the accreditation institution's seal of approval", says Anne Stokkendal-Linde, who is responsible for the Danish National Academy of Music's quality assurance.

The Accreditation Council states:

"In the accreditation process, the Danish National Academy of Music has been able to demonstrate a quality system that suits them well as a small institution, and they are also good at putting it into practice. The quality and relevance of the individual programmes are assessed against established goals, which cover the work of ensuring knowledge base, content, organization and relevance. The system appears well-described and firmly anchored in the organization and in the management structure. They have had two full annual reviews of the system, it is thorough and has led to relevant development initiatives," says Birthe Friis Mortensen, Chair of the Accreditation Council.

Facts:

  • The Accreditation Council is a professionally independent body that decides on the accreditation of Danish educational institutions. The Council decides whether the institution's quality assurance system justifies positive institutional accreditation, conditional positive institutional accreditation or refusal of institutional accreditation.
  • The accreditation reports provide overall professional assessments of whether the institution meets a number of agreed European standards for relevance, knowledge base, level, organization and a well-functioning internal quality assurance system.
  • The duration of accreditation is a maximum of six years. After that, the institution must undergo re-accreditation.
