Entrepreneurship at Danish National Academy of Music

The entrepreneurship subject at DNA of Music aims to support our students' enterprising and sustainable working lives, preferably, but not exclusively, based on an innovative artistic practice. The subject is understood both as an educational subject and as a tool subject and very much as a subject that must be developed in practice and based on the artistic work, an Artistic Entrepreneurship. We seek to equip our students to navigate a long life as a musician, where the content must continuously evolve and adjust to societal conditions and the individual's artistic ambitions.

Entrepreneurship is offered as a course on the bachelor's and master's programs, depending on the field of study. In the soloist program it is taught together with Artistic Research. In some fields of study, joint projects are developed (e.g. Folkekons tour, Lydknust Festival), in others it is based on the individual student's projects. Entrepreneurship activities have been part of the Danish National Academy of Music's framework agreements since 2014.

Other activities

Workshops: DNA of Music offers an annual series of workshops focusing on artistic entrepreneurship and working life. The workshops, which are offered in collaboration with DMF (Danish Musicians Association), are open to all students, alumni and DMF members. The aim is to provide knowledge, advice and new skills as needed.

Career days: DNA of Music holds two annual career days for all students and alumni. The purpose is to focus on career-related questions, challenges and opportunities that await after completing the programme. The career days meet the need for industry knowledge and knowledge about topics such as financing, tax conditions for artists and rights, and inspire through, among other things, alumni stories and presentations from players to reflect on their own career opportunities and challenges. The days end with a networking café.

The Entrepreneurship Award:

Since 2014, DNA of Music has awarded the 'Entrepreneurship Award', sponsored by DMF. The award is a grant of DKK 10,000 to honor particularly entrepreneurial initiatives among students at the academy, thus focusing on working life, career opportunities and drive. It may be emphasized that the initiatives have created value for others, be it of a cultural, social or economic nature. Two awards are presented annually - one in Odense and one Esbjerg.
