Created between two stools
In "Created between two stools" Rasmus Zwicki develops and describes compositional strategies in the creation of transdisciplinary works, focusing on hybrids between music, drama and performance art. The project includes Zwicki's own artistic work and reflections, the collection of leading international composers' experiences in the field, as well as pedagogical and professional dissemination of the above.
"Created between two stools" is based on Zwicki's own artistic practice, which covers a wide range of links between music and text / drama / dance / visual art / video / documentary / installation, both within more traditional frameworks with DR, Copenhagen Phil, Den Fynske Opera, and freer experiments with Wundergrund festival, DR Underholdningsorkestret, SPOT festival, AUT and Odense Int. Performance Festival. His artistic practice includes both works where he contributes in multiple roles (writer/composer/director etc.) and works where he collaborates with other artists in a more limited role (e.g. as a composer with Ursula A. Olsen and FIGURA, or as writer/librettist with Andy Pape in Funen Opera's Reumert-winning opera "Andre Bygninger").
Existing research/development work draws on the network of researchers, artists and administrators established this year in a collaboration between the University of Surrey, York University and Oxford Brookes University, led by Dr. Tom Armstrong (Surrey), and the more genre-specific platform Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Opera and Drama (CIRO) at Cardiff University. Compared to existing development work in the field (D. Roesner, H. Goebbels et al: Composed Theater. Aesthetics, Practices & Processes, 2012), the project aims to explore how the choice of creative strategy and production hierarchy can contribute to achieving the desired outcome.
